Have you ever thought about what Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Mike Myers might look like together again, almost 20 years after their famous telethon moment during Hurricane Katrina? The answer is on Saturday Night Live.
In a hilariously awkward sketch on May 17, the season 50 end of Saturday Night Live, the actor Austin Powers gets stuck in an elevator with the troubled rapper. He does everything he can to get away from the awkward situation.
“Mike Myers Elevator Ride,” the four-minute sketch, starts with Myers (playing himself) getting into an elevator with two star-struck people, played by host Scarlett Johansson and cast member Marcello Hernandez. Ye, played by Kenan Thompson, walks in while on the phone and complains that Spotify took down his controversial new song “Cousins.”
“Oh my God.” “Is that Kanye West?” Myers says in fear as Johansson’s character quickly leaves the scene. He begs, “You can’t leave me here by myself with him.”
West turns to Myers and says that this is the first time they’ve seen each other since their Hurricane Katrina telethon in 2005. That’s when West famously said on live TV that Bush didn’t care about Black people, leaving Myers speechless.
Thompson’s West tells him, “You had to stand there looking stupid.” “So what have you been up to?” Myers asks to change the subject. “Oh, me?” “Rap artist: I’m now in the KKK.”
Small talk about their kids keeps the awkward conversation going until Ye suddenly changes the subject to Diddy, who is on trial for sex trafficking.
“Do you think this Diddy stuff is crazy?” West says. “Diddy, he’s being tried for a lot of things right now.” Man, it’s crazy. You believe you know a guy. It turned out to be a completely crazy monster.
When asked, “So what happened to you?” Thompson’s West asks for more information, but Myers quickly brushes it off.
Ye asks if Myers’ last name is Jewish, the elevator seems to get stuck, and the hip-hop star takes a hit from a nitrous gas canister. The situation gets worse. A short time later, Myers runs for the door.
BAD BUNNY was a musical guest on another part of the show and sang two songs from his sixth album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. They were called “NUEVAYoL” and “PERFuMITO NUEVO.” You can watch the shows here.
