Nonprofit Combats Drug Overdose Epidemic With Naloxone Giveaway Before EDC Las Vegas

As of today, EDC Las Vegas has begun. To help make the event safer, the Victoria’s Voice Foundation is giving away naloxone, the organization has told EDM.com.

Victoria’s Voice is having a pop-up from 10am to 3pm at the East Tower of the Westgate Las Vegas. They will be giving away free opioid overdose reversal drugs as part of their effort to stop people from dying of overdoses at music events.

Participants in the festival can get free naloxone doses and information on how to use them. People going to the weekend’s events will also be able to get snacks and water at the pop-up.

The Siegel family started Victoria’s Voice after the sad death of their daughter with the same name in 2015. Since then, the foundation has grown into a well-known national leader in drug prevention and education.

Today’s pop-up is appropriate because, according to new CDC data, the number of drug overdose deaths in Nevada has skyrocketed by 26% in just one year. This is the second-highest increase in the country, after Alaska.

The project shows that the music business is changing how it deals with harm reduction at EDM festivals. Insomniac Events has been at the forefront, working with the charity End Overdose on a number of projects, such as training tens of thousands of people who went to EDC Las Vegas last year.

From May 16th to May 18th, EDC, the biggest electronic dance music event in North America, will be back at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
