The escapism dance anthem “Let’s Ride Away” moves Avicii’s legacy forward: Listen

1 min read

Folk tales were turned into timeless electronic music, but it wasn’t magic; it was Avicii. Avicii Forever, the late EDM star’s new collection released after his death, captures that transformative recipe while adding a new precious element to the mix.

The retrospective collection, which came out today via Interscope, includes Avicii’s classic albums along with “Let’s Ride Away,” a collaboration with Elle King that had not been released before. Her singing about finding one’s place is as heavy as an artist who had a hard time finding his own: “It’s in the sky, it’s in the air / If I get lost, I’ll meet you there / We can’t stop ’til we find our place / Let’s saddle up and ride away.”

But it’s clear that his production is still upbeat, which is typical for the Swedish dance music star. The song’s catchy drop has a high-pitched horn part that brings back the old-school Avicii high that started many a festival moment.

“Let’s Ride Away” was one of Bergling’s last artistic works before he tragically killed himself at age 28 in 2018. Fans can turn on the memories machine with “Levels” and “Wake Me Up,” two songs on Avicii Forever that are popular with people of all ages who love to dance. There are 19 songs on the whole compilation.

Bergling’s estate and Pophouse Entertainment, which bought 75% of his recording and publishing rights in 2022, worked together to make Avicii Forever. It’s another step in the investment firm’s ongoing work to honor and protect his contributions, which helped shape a generation of electronic dance music.

Pophouse is also working on a show about Avicii, whose life was recently the subject of a well-known Netflix documentary. Another documentary by Academy Award-winning director Lawrence Bender is currently being made. It will include “previously unreleased footage” that was shot around the time that Bergling was discovered and became famous.
