Cassian’s first song on John Summit’s Experts Only label is called “SOS,” and he just put it out.

The Australian DJ and producer is getting ready for his first show on Tomorrowland’s famous Mainstage this summer. This is his latest big debut. As of recently, EDM.com named Cassian one of the best audio engineers of 2024. He also played at the record-breaking Las Vegas Sphere as part of Anyma’s groundbreaking “End of Genesys” residency and was the venue’s Music Director, “overseeing the entire audio experience,” according to a press release.

Cassian slinks into darker techno territory here, and the result is both polished and punishing. He may be best known for the cinematic touches he adds to his melodic house music. He makes a driving, layered bassline and runs operatic voice hooks through the arrangement to give it a dystopian feel.

Cassian joked about the song’s beginnings by saying that someone told him he looked like the Easter Island statues, or moai, which are huge stone figures that the Rapa Nui people cut to honor their ancestors.

“Someone told me I look like the Easter Island statues, so at the start of the year, I went on a trip to check them out in the flesh,” he shared. “They began singing this song to me as soon as I got there.” I quickly recorded it, and then I was immediately taken over by a ghost who sampled it and turned it into “SOS.” I guess it was a ghost producer.”
