Avant Gardner, the owners of the Brooklyn Mirage, said on Tuesday that all concerts planned through Memorial Day weekend have been canceled because of ongoing permit problems. This will make the venue’s long-awaited reopening even later.
In a statement, management stated that the affected shows would be moved to July and August. Ticketholders will be notified by email and text message about their refund options.
“Although the Brooklyn Mirage is opening later than anticipated, we are making great progress towards opening our doors,” it said. “We take responsibility for the delay and are working diligently with the City of New York to make sure that we meet all regulations and requirements, so that we can deliver a safe and unforgettable experience for everyone.”
A pair of shows with The Chainsmokers as the main act have been moved to August 7 and 8. They showed their sadness on Instagram Stories about the changes.
“We are being told the venue still does not have the permitting required to open,” they wrote. “We are shocked and sad. We worked so hard to make a great show for our favorite city, but sometimes things just don’t work out.
The postponements are another blow for the troubled outdoor venue, which has been through a lot of repairs and was supposed to show off big improvements this spring. The venue couldn’t open on May 2 as planned because it allegedly wasn’t able to get final approval from building inspectors. This meant that the relaunch had to be put off indefinitely.
Avant Gardner said today that they would share information on the Mirage’s progress and when it is expected to open by the end of this week. They also said that they are working “24/7 to bring you the groundbreaking experience we promised.” The renovation project, which is being led by new CEO Josh Wyatt, includes big improvements to the sound and lighting systems, as well as changes to the stage’s layout.
This is what Wyatt told EDM.com about Brooklyn Mirage: “When you walk into Brooklyn Mirage for the first time, you’re going to see a set design that will blow you away.” “Then it will look very different when you come back in two weeks or two months.” And the technology we’re making to make that possible is completely unique and has never been seen before. I find it pretty amazing.
