15 years after his hit first song “Smile and a Synth Hook” told everyone to shut up, Mike Posner is back to show that his first single is still popular on the dance floor. There is a remix pack out from Dim Mak Records that brings “Cooler Than Me” new life. It has five heavy-hitting reworks and a brand-new voice from Posner himself.
The time is not a mistake. This weekend, Posner will be making a big showing at EDC Las Vegas, and the EP, called Headliner Remix Pack, sets the tone with a lot of power. Interesting enough, it’s the first of three remix albums that the artist plans to put out with Steve Aoki’s famous label.
The remix bundle is a return to Posner’s roots with a fresh outlook. His crossover appeal peaked with SeeB’s hit version of “I Took A Pill in Ibiza” in 2015. “Cooler Than Me” was both his first song and his big break. It made it into the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified multi-Platinum around the world.
The new remixes have a lot of different sounds and layers that make the original song sound like something completely different. Daniel Allan turns the track into a UK garage groove by tightening the rhythm and adding a kinetic bounce. Deorro does a mainstage rework with maximum effect.
Getter brings biting basslines and mechanical grit to his rare return to making electronic music. 4B comes through with heavy trap music, and NIIKO x SWAE slow it down with a smoother, deeper house gloss that burns under Posner’s re-sung voice.
